Posted by: toddhatfield on Wednesday, April 06, 2005.

According to those who know them, Joe and Roseanne Kirlin personify the meaning of a good guy.  It is for that and many other reasons that they are the recipients of the 2005 Bill Duncan Good Guy Award.

After their daughter, Katie, became a wheelchair athlete due to a spinal tumor and then passed away, Joe and Roseanne have dedicated their lives to raising funds for wheelchair sports and seeing they are utilized to change the lives of athletes on the East Coast and beyond.

Through the years their hands on approach in the Philadelphia area led to the development of track, swimming and junior basketball teams all functioning under the name, Katie’s Komets.   The two have been the driving force behind the resurrection and advancement of junior wheelchair sports in their community.

In addition, the Katie Kirlin Fund has helped to change the lives of athletes up and down the East Coast by providing scholarships for equipment, travel, and sponsoring events.

Congratulations to these two deserving individuals for making a difference in the lives of so many people.
